The best kids books by Dallas Clayton

Dallas Clayton is awesome. No seriously. He really is awesome. His kids books are primarily about being awesome too.

When Dallas Clayton was a kid, he dreamed about traveling around the world, meeting new people every day, having amazing experiences and sharing the stories from those experiences with other new people. And that’s pretty much what he does now. When not doing that, Dallas Clayton is writing, drawing, having his mind blown by his nine-year-old, or jumping into a large body of water.

While Dallas Clayton has been hailed as everything from ‘the self-publishing wunderkind’ to ‘the new Dr Seuss’, there’s really only one more thing you need to know about this imaginative and original Los Angeles based writer and artist – he used to be a unicorn. Awesome!

An Awesome Book
by Dallas Clayton
(Ages 2-6)

Based on the simple concept of dreaming big, An Awesome Book! is the inspiring debut work of Los Angeles writer/artist Dallas Clayton. An Awesome Book! encourages kids not to limit their dreams and to dream ‘… not a million quiet dreams’ but ‘a million dreams that roar’. The illustrations are creative and highly stylised – complementing the lyrical prose perfectly. Best of all, adults will love reading this over and over… whilst being reminded that they too have the capacity to dream big! Dallas Clayton’s first kids book, and still one of his best.

An Awesome Book of Thanks!
by Dallas Clayton
(Ages 2-8)

Inspired by the idea of being thankful for all that you have, An Awesome Book of Thanks! is a beautifully written, fantastically illustrated walk through a world of magical unicorns, robotic dinosaurs, and all of life’s simple moments, great and small. Crafted for children ages 0-1000, this timeless story is sure to be an instant classic, at home in the hands of anyone looking for the perfect reminder of just how beautiful life can be.

While geared toward young children (0-10) and the parents of young children it is also a book for the masses and spans age groups, gender, geographical, racial, and religious boundaries. I would say 0-1000. The book conveys, in pictures and simple yet beautiful language, all the ways one can be thankful, and all the different things in life to be thankful for. Dallas Clayton has crafted a simply awesome kids book around the idea of being thankful. Truly awesome!

Lily the Unicorn
by Dallas Clayton
(Ages 2-8)

Lily the unicorn loves making new friends and going on adventures! So when Lily meets her new pal, Roger the penguin, she plans all sorts of fun for them. But Roger is afraid of trying new things. What if he tries and fails? In this sweet story about friendship, Lily teaches young readers that the world is a fun, amazing place. And like all of Dallas Clayton’s picture books, it’s filled with delightful, lively and truly imaginative illustrations.

Make Magic! Do Good!
by Dallas Clayton
(Ages 5-10)

A book of illustrated poems full of wisdom, wonder, and whimsy.

A boy with a beard tries to stay six forever. A frightful monster lives a million miles away, but is equally scared of you. A magic rope hangs from the sky, next to a sign saying “Give me a try.” In this brightly illustrated selection of playful, often provocative poems, ideas run the gamut from stopping your lightning-fast running to help others keep up, imagining a store that sells colors never before made, or admitting you’ll never know all the answers (and sleeping better at night).
